Wishing Everyone a Happy Labour Day

Northumberland Labour Council would like to wish everyone a Happy Labour Day!

Labour Day for some is traditionally the last long weekend of summer. A chance to take a last summer trip. A weekend to spend time at the beach. All before reality sets back in. As we adjust to our regularly scheduled lives. School and work lives.

Labour Day is much different for us in the labour movement. Today is our chance to celebrate the efforts to improve the rights of workers everywhere. Labour Day is about giving thanks to all workers for their contribution they bring to our communities. The benefits we enjoy today were not just handed to us. Workers put their jobs and their lives on the line for the benefits we enjoy today.

With the ongoing attacks on the rights of workers and with the political climate becomes more and more divided, the labour movement is becoming more important than ever. This year, workers are saying enough is enough and fighting back to restore the rights of all workers.

Workers are winning. Let’s keep up the pressure!
