Northumberland Labour Council Holds National Day of Mourning Ceremony
May 1, 2023

Lake Ontario was the beautiful back drop as the Northumberland Labour Council held its National Day of Mourning event at Lucas Point Park. Small crowd gathered on this cold and windy day to hear a series of speakers with the same message “Honour those who have died, fell ill, and injured in workplace incidents”.
One moment that will be remembered was when a grieving mother and daughter lays a bouquet of flowers and a single flower on the monument.
Our amazing speakers were:
Clockwise (from top left): Marsha Smoke, Alderville First Nation; Nicole Beatty, Deputy Mayor Cobourg; Mandy Martin, Mayor of Cramahe Township and Warden of Northumberland County; Dan Tobin, President Northumberland Labour Council; Loretta Michaud, Workers Health and Safety Centre, Director of Policy and Programs; Felicia Samuel, Representative from Canadian Labour Congress
Thank to all those who attended and laid a wreath, to our amazing speakers, and to the Members of the Labour Council, whose hard work and dedication makes this day happen.
