Northumberland Labour Council stands in solidarity with Ukraine

April 4, 2022

The Northumberland Labour Council stands in solidarity with Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.  While the current unprovoked attacks are clearly aimed at the nation of Ukraine, they are also, by default, an assault on the security of both Europe and the rest of the world.  It is now a fight by the nation of Ukraine and indeed all nations against tyranny, oppression, and a return to a time of global uncertainty.  All of the free peoples of the world must stand in unity to resist the advance of authoritarianism and the assault on liberty and democracy.  We must never forget the lessons taught to us over the course of the last 110 years.

The nation and people of Ukraine have an inherent right to self-determination and to decide for themselves which form of government and which political alliances it will have.

The people and leadership of Ukraine have demonstrated tremendous courage and resilience and the Northumberland Labour Council implores the governments of Ontario and Canada as well as our corporate leaders to lend whatever aid that they are able to lend at this crucial time in history to both the nation and to the people of a sovereign Ukraine.
